Le Capitole a été construit en 1929 à La Havane sous la direction de l'architecte Eugenio Raynieri Piedra, à la demande du président cubain de l'époque, Gerardo Machado. Le bâtiment était destiné à abriter et à être le siège des deux chambres du Congrès ou organe législatif de la République de Cuba. Inspirée du Capitole américain, il possède une façade en colonnes néoclassiques et un dôme qui atteint 91,73 m de hauteur. Le Capitole de Cuba est situé à la rue Industria, au coin de San José, la vieille Havane, tout près du Parque de la Fraternidad, de la fabrique de tabac Partagás, du Gran Teatro de La Habana, de l'hôtel Inglaterra et de l'emblématique Paseo del Prado. Il est ouvert au public tous les jours de 9h00 à 19h00 et offre des services de visites gratuites ou guidées. Il accueille régulièrement des événements de nature différente. On y trouve également des photographes, des étudiants et des professeurs cubains en visite en groupe, voire des personnes d'autres régions de l'intérieur du pays qui ne se lassent pas de l'histoire du Capitole de Cuba.
